Outreach Spotlight: May at the YMCA

In our class at the Decatur YMCA yesterday, we learned about honeybees and the important work they do to help the farmers bring us locally grown food. We played “fly, sip, stick” – a game that models pollination as bees fly to flowers looking for nectar. We also tasted local honey and drew bees with 1 tongue, 2 antenna, 3 body parts (head, thorax, abdomen), 4 wings, 5 eyes, and 6 legs.
