Georgia Fresh For Less: EBT Dollars Get Half off Produce!

About

The MARTA Market (MMs) is a pop-up farm stand that takes place in seven MARTA public transport stations. The goal is simple: help farmers sell more produce while getting healthy, fresh food into places where people already are!

Pairing produce with public transportation by placing MMs inside transit stations gives MARTA patrons convenient food access options, allowing them to purchase food on their way to or from the train or bus. The MMs are located in the West End, Five Points, West Bankhead, College Park, H.E. Holmes, Doraville, and Kensington MARTA Stations, serving multiple areas with limited food access.

MARTA operates train and bus services that typically transport almost 500,000 people per day. MARTA’s goal is for MMs to be a primary retail component of all future transit-oriented developments, demonstrating long-term commitment to supporting a local food economy.

Since 2015, the MARTA Market evolved from a single station tent-and-table set-up to five recognizable, semi-fixed produce stands offering 15-18 unique produce items at five market locations each week, as well as locally produced value-added foods like peanut butter, baked goods, juice, and some prepared salads. The markets include a mix of hyperlocal, regional, and conventional produce to both meet consumer nutrition and preferences and to support the regional food economy.

This innovative food access solution is managed by a partnership between Community Farmers Markets and MARTA, and supported by our partners Open Hand Atlanta, Wholesome Wave Georgia, Urban Recipe and Foodwell Alliance. The MARTA Market sources locally grown produce from hyperlocal and regional farms. This gives local farmers the opportunity to sell more produce to consumers that might not otherwise make it to a farmers market. This produce is complemented by non-local produce so that MARTA Market patrons can do a large amount of their fresh food shopping on their way to or from home.

The markets accept cash, credit and debit, as well as EBT/SNAP (which is doubled in value for fresh produce!).

Georgia Fresh For Less (SNAP)

Double Your SNAP / EBT Dollars at the market

At the MARTA Market, your SNAP/EBT dollars go further: they’re doubled! $10 EBT is worth $20, $20 EBT is worth $40 at the market, so be sure to bring our EBT card! Ask anyone working at the MARTA Market to double your EBT!

COVID19 Safety Protocols

You may notice we are doing some things differently this year in accordance with the CDC and MARTA health guidelines. Please be patient with us, this new workflow is to keep everyone healthy and well.

  • Please observe social distancing while waiting in line (6ft apart)
  • When you reach the front of the line, indicate to staff the produce you want to buy
  • A member of staff will grab your produce and hand them off to the payment section
  • A second member of staff will then manage payment for the goods you selected
  • Please wear a mask in line and at the counter if you aren’t yet vaccinated.

All market staff will wear masks for your protection. We are sanitizing our work surfaces, market bins, and shelves often so you may notice the smell of bleach. Don’t worry though, this won’t make your produce taste any different!
