We’re super excited for tomorrow’s market at Oakhurst Farmers Market! Tomato season is finally here, and we couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday than surrounded by fresh summer produce, local farmers, and our wonderful community.

This week’s lineup is bursting with all the best flavors of the season: TOMATOES, plums, corn, goat cheese & milk, breakfast bagels, shrimp, fresh beef, chicken & pork, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, broccoli, asparagus, iced coffee & chai, fresh bread, honey, eggs, fresh baked sweets, fresh juice, flowers, and exciting local farms and vendors! 🌽🥩🥯🫐🍅✨

🥕 We are looking for a passionate individual to help manage one of the largest farmers markets in the city as Assistant Manager. The Grant Park Farmers Market serves thousands of people every Sunday morning and hosts 70+ local farmers and food businesses. This is a great opportunity for folks wanting to get started in community building and food systems work.

☀️We are also looking for a Programs Coordinator to support operations across all of our programs. This role will participate in virtually every aspect of CFM’s work. From educational programs to events and food distribution models, this is a great opportunity for those seeking to deepen their impact and grow in the local food and nonprofit sector.

This week’s aggregate booth features three women farmers from the metro Atlanta area! Stop by the info booth to purchase their wild-foraged chanterelle mushrooms 🍄, organic produce🥕, and fresh cut flowers 💐! With this new initiative, CFM will help reduce barriers for both farmers and consumers!

The lineup includes refreshing crisp vegetables like cucumbers (over 95% water!), radishes, zucchini, squash, sweet corn, peppers, eggplant, and leafy greens such as kale, collards, and rainbow chard. Make sure to incorporate aromatic herbs, such basil, oregano, and mint, to elevate every dish.

🥒🍅 Meet the Summer Superstars: Ready to try something new? Here are four seasonal stars that are not only delicious but also powerhouses for your body:

🍄‍🟫Chanterelles: Soon arriving from the woodland floor, these golden-orange mushrooms boast a rich, peppery flavor plus antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins B and D. Perfect for pastas, soups, or omelettes!

🍑Plums: Members of the Rose family alongside peaches and cherries, these hydrating fruits are packed with soluble fiber to support healthy digestion and beneficial flavonoids for heart health. Look for classic black and red varieties!

🌿 Vegan Summer Pesto 🥕
A savory, yet refreshing, vegan pesto curated by our Educational Chef Tatiana (@taurus.season.food .) By making the simple switch from parmesan to nutritional yeast, this dairy-free pesto is an inclusive, nutritious spread for all! PS: This recipe features a foraged herb known as papalo, provided by @crackinthesidewalk_farmlet ) Feel free to add papalo, with flavor comparable to cilantro, to this pesto, but also incorporate any fresh herbs and/or greens you have on hand!

Ingredients:
* 2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed (@ragandfrassfarm )
* ½ cup fresh kale leaves, packed (stems removed) (@snapfingerfarm )
* ½ cup papalo (or any other foraged herb/green) (@crackinthesidewalk_farmlet )
* ⅓ cup walnuts, toasted
* 2 cloves garlic, peeled
* ½ cup nutritional yeast
* ½ tsp fine sea salt (plus more to taste)
* ¼ tsp black pepper
* 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
* ½ cup extra virgin olive oil (plus more if needed) (@middlegagrowerscoop )
* Carrots + Radishes for sampling (@ragandfrassfarm )

Instructions:
1. Toast Nuts: Heat a dry skillet over medium heat for 3–5 minutes until fragrant. Set aside to cool.
2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a food processor or blender, pulse the basil, kale, garlic, toasted nuts, nutritional yeast, salt, and pepper until coarsely chopped.
3. Emulsify: With the motor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil through the feed tube (or use a steady hand while blending). Process until smooth but still slightly textured.
4. Finish: Stir in the lemon juice by hand with a spoon. Taste and adjust salt or lemon as needed.
5. Serve: Serve alongside raw vegetables, on pasta, in sandwiches, and more!

🥬 Fried Kohlrabi with Peach & Cabbage Slaw 🍑

🥬 Fried Kohlrabi with Peach & Cabbage Slaw 🍑

Try this recipe curated by our Educational Chef Tatiana (@taurus.season.food ) Golden, crispy fried kohlrabi served with a bright, creamy slaw of red and Napa cabbage, shredded peaches, and a fennel-garlic yogurt dressing. Perfect as a light lunch, a vibrant side, or a unique vegetarian main!

Ingredients: 🍋🧄🥬🍑

For the Fried Kohlrabi:
• 2 small kohlrabi, peeled (@cosmos.farm )
• 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
• 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
• 1 egg + splash of milk
• Olive oil for frying
• Salt & black pepper to taste

For the Slaw & Dressing:
• ¼ small red cabbage, shredded (@cosmos.farm )
• ¼ Napa cabbage, shredded (@cosmos.farm )
• 2 ripe peaches, sliced or grated into thin strips (@georgiaproudprovisions )
• 2 tbsp Greek yogurt
• Juice of ½ lemon
• 1 tsp toasted fennel seeds
• ½ clove garlic, grated
• 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
• Optional: Use trimmed kohlrabi leaves/shreds in the slaw too!

Instructions:
1. Prep: Slice kohlrabi into ½ cm rounds. Shred both cabbages and prepare peaches.
2. Batter Station: Set up three bowls: Flour, Whisked egg + milk, Panko. Dredge each kohlrabi slice: flour → egg → panko.
3. Fry: Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Fry slices until golden brown on both sides and tender inside (about 4-5 mins per side). If needed, finish in a warm oven. Drain on paper towels and season immediately with salt & pepper.
4. Make Dressing: Whisk together Greek yogurt, lemon juice, grated garlic, fennel seeds, and s&p.
5. Toss Slaw: In a large bowl, combine shredded red cabbage, Napa cabbage, peaches, parsley, and optional kohlrabi greens. Pour in the dressing and toss gently.
6. Plate: Spread the creamy slaw on a plate and stack the hot, crispy fried kohlrabi on top.
