The Decatur Farmers Market open today, Wednesday, April 16th, from 4 pm to 7 pm! Kids Booth hosted by @goldfishswimschool . Our chef demo booth will provide free samples of seasonal recipes, @gsunutrition students are sampling raw produce, Storytime with @littleshopofstories starts at 5pm, and Spike from @sweethoneatlanta will be sharpening knives onsight.

Making dinner plans? Here is some inspiration to use all the early spring greens and bright ephemerals from the farmer market. This versatile pesto recipe was demoed at the Grant Park Farmers Market by our new educational chef: Ever Williams. You may recognize them as the manager of Georgia Organics’ Farmer Champion program, or from their culinary pop-ups across the city. We are delighted to have them at the chef’s booth sharing their knowledge on turning farmers’ produce into delicious and practical meals!

🧑‍🍳 A note from the chef: “You could serve this dish with fish, add chopped rotisserie chicken, fry chunks of tofu, or use cilantro instead of celery (or in addition to) or another kind of nut—peanuts could be good! Lime instead of vinegar would work, too. For my demo, I topped it with diced raw daikon radish, spicy micro greens, more chopped pecans, and Japanese knotweed. It’s a flexible, easy, and forgiving dish!”

Pecan “Pesto” for Rice Noodle Salad 🥢

Ingredients:
1 bunch of knotweed; or 2-3 stalks of celery, including the leaves
1 bunch of scallions
1 bunch of green garlic or 3 cloves of garlic & more scallions or chives
1 cup pecans
1/2-3/4 c avocado oil
1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
2-3 tbsp of seasoned rice wine vinegar
salt to taste

Directions:
1. Roughly chop celery, herbs & pecans
2. Add to the food processor with everything else.
3. Blend until smooth
4. Taste it, add more salt, vinegar and/or oil as needed.
5. Serve with cooked rice noodles (wide pad thai style if you can) and any veggies you want, raw or sauteed!
