Market Chef @meowkriner here, at the very tail-end of our Georgia citrus season 🍊🍋 If you’ve got a few satsumas, lemons or grapefruits rolling around the back of your fridge, ‘tis the season to put ‘em to good use or preserve them for later! I’m a big fan of juicing my citrus when past snacking prime - I’ll strain and freeze for later or use immediately for LOTSA things, like this super simple bright vinaigrette ✨

For the vinaigrette:
1 small bag fresh citrus (I used Bingo’s, which are small sweet mandarins) @georgiacitrus
Olive oil
Rice vinegar
Whole grain fancy mustard
Lemon syrup @anniesgourmetsyrup (or another sweetener of your choice!) optional, and to taste
Salt to taste

For the Salad:
Salad greens (I used a mix of lettuces and bby spicy greens) from @ragandfrassfarm and @our.apothecary
Microgreens @peachysproutsga and @eatmicromunch
Pretty purple radishes :) @ragandfrassfarm and @our.apothecary
Pecans (I used a mix of Gingerbread and Sweet Heat flavors!) @pearsonfarmga

Make the vinaigrette! Juice your citrus. Strain out seeds (duh) and strain out pulp if desired. I started with 2 parts juice, 1 part oil, a dash of rice vinegar, a squirt of mustard, blended and adjusted with syrup and salt from there. Because I used a sweet citrus, I only used a frizz of syrup; you’ll likely need more oil and sweetener to balance out a sour lemon or grapefruit!
Make the salad! Wash greens and roots, roughly chop large leaves, slice radishes into half-moons (marvel at how pretty and colorful they are in the middle 😻). Roughly chop pecans. Clip long strands of microgreens.

When ready to serve + enjoy, mix your greens and roots together, drizzle over a bit of vinaigrette. Remember, you can always add more, but you can’t take away! Taste a dressed leaf - could it use salt or acid or sweet or oil? More dressing in general? Don’t be afraid to sprinkle in a bit more of what you think it might need - trust your tastebuds! Garnish with all the pecans and microgreens that your heart desires.

Leftover vinaigrette stays fresh for 5-7 days in the fridge, and can be repurposed as a marinade, base for soup, or gravy! Or to make more yummy winter salads 🥗🎉

Our hearts are with our farming community, who have lost a loved and valued member.

Chris cemented pillars in local agriculture. His wholehearted commitment to fair food was an example for many. He moved about with honesty and purpose and created human connections with anyone he crossed paths with. He traveled abroad two years ago to connect with his roots and continue his farming dreams. Chris was a vendor, a CFM board member, and a friend.

Farmers are tenacious people. They love the land and go through great physical and emotional toil to work with it. Especially small-scale, regenerative farmers. They respect and admire nature, and strive to protect it while growing food to feed their community. Our modern society takes food for granted and often ignores the great risk working on the elements poses. We are deeply grateful for land stewards at home and beyond. We see you, we admire you, and we thank you for the love you put in every day.

Chris, you'll be sorely missed.

For nine years we've gathered to recognize the trailblazing women of Atlanta's food community. During this event, you will taste unparalleled food and drinks grown and prepared by local women. We'll also present the annual awards to outstanding farmers, chefs, beverage makers, advocates, and Janes of all trades. 🥂

The nominations for a Lady Locavores Award come from within the community. If you admire the work someone is doing in the local food movement, nominate them for an award! Nominations are due by midnight on February 8th.

This is open to anyone but geared towards celebrating people who identify as women in a way that is significant to them, regardless of gender assigned at birth. We do not discriminate on the basis of gender identity or expression.

This fundraising event supports Community Farmers Markets’ educational chef program, which offers at-market demos and classes in the community on ways to use seasonal produce and cooking techniques. 🙌

Both of our winter markets are staying open. On Saturday, Oakhurst will open an hour later at 10am and will remain open until 1pm. Regular hours for Grant Park on Sunday!
